This is the first song written for this album, and I have no idea where it came from, it just sort of popped in my head. I probably have had it half written for a couple years now, and couldn't figure out how to sing it/how to arrange it until now. It just proves how friggin hard it is to write a song!! Even simple songs like this take a lot of effort.
It's about two astronauts in a relationship, and one decides it time to end it. The singer decides to deliver this news while on a mission to the moon. He sings a bit about how things used to be, and how they have taken a turn for the worse. The instrumentation is supposed to invoke images of space and darkness. I debated back and forth on adding tons of reverb to the vocals, but in the end decided to use the reverb, and keep the vocals up front in the mix. At the end of the track is a sort of freakout with synth, and moments like that will be a common theme on this album, but they serve a purpose. I think they allow an album to feel more like a journey, as opposed to a group of random songs, and are great at setting a particular mood.
